On Sunday, Claire, Carissa, Tuuli, and Jordan fenced at Cleveland in the women's epee and the senior mixed open events.
In the women's, Jordan was 11th out of pools, won her first DE 15-3, and upset the 7th seed in the next. She ended up taking 8th!
Claire was 3rd out of pools and for her second DE, had to fence Carissa, who had an excellent first DE with a higher seed after some not so great pools. Claire won 15-10, made it to the semi finals, and tied for 3rd!
Tuuli had a close bout with a Cleveland fencer that she narrowly lost. She didn't fence in the open but stayed to support everyone! She also fenced the day before at a college competition.
Carissa fared the best coming out of pools in the open, with just one victory but three close 4-5 bouts. Claire and Carissa won their first DEs. In the round of 32, Carissa fenced Pena, who won the competition. It was back and forth until he pulled away in the end. Claire fenced the 3rd seed, the coach at Two Ravens, in a close match, losing 13-15
It was a great day! We got to see Tuuli (our teammate who fences at Dennison), Claire brought home another 3rd place win, Jordan proved she could hang with the top women fencers, and Carissa demonstrated true emotional/mental resiliency!
This Saturday, Laurie, Julia, Craig, and Rosalyn all went to WMFA's Fall Brawl.
Laurie tied for third in saber with a very strong first DE.
Julia was the highest placing women in the mixed epee, she finished at 8th out of 16.
This was Rosalyn's first senior mixed event, she had three of the top six fencers in her pool. She beat one and had close bouts with the other two.
Well done everyone!
