On behalf of the members of Three Swords Fencing Club, welcome!

Whatever the reason you came, because you’ve always wanted to learn to sword fight, or learn to handle your emotions under stress, get in shape, try a sport that challenges your body and mind, or just because you thought it looked cool and wanted to see if you could do it, you’ve come to the right place.

But we’re not going to lie to you, becoming really good at fencing isn’t easy. You’ll be challenged physically and mentally. And you’re going to sweat, and your legs and arms will get tired and you’ll probably get poked harder than you like from time to time, but it’s all part of the game. There will also be occasional feelings of self-doubt, mingled with the challenge to always improve, to find a way to out-touch an opponent who out-touched you the last time. That is what keeps us coming back for more.

To be a good fencer you have to be patient. And the first lesson in patience is to give yourself time to learn enough of the basics to have fun fencing. If you make it that far, we think you’ll be hooked.

Fencing is a great exercise. While it’s certainly a lot of fun, it is also a great way to burn calories and build up your endurance. Strength training is also involved because you work many of the muscles in your legs, arms, and core.

Fencing can help increase mental agility and is sometimes referred to as physical chess due to the logic and strategy tactics behind the movements. The core, arms, and legs all develop a good deal of flexibility in regular fencers.
